Fernando Carvalho Lima [Associate Consultant]

Fernando Lima comes to Idea Connection Systems in the Brazilian market with corporate experience as Partner Director of Edubrix, where he has implemented Learning Management Systems (LMS), distance-learning customized content, knowledge management and human resources project solutions for national, multinational, and international corporations based in Brazil. He also built an extensive expertise in the human resources field from his 40 years of experience as HR Executive in the best national and multinational companies in Brazil.

Fernando is an Organizational Psychologist, specializing in Organizational and Institutional Behavior. Along his career, Fernando specialized in Strategic Planning, Executive Development, HR Transformation, and Change Management.

Fernando developed his solid career as Human Resources Executive starting as the Recruiter at the start-up of Embraer, the successful Brazilian aircraft company, back in 1968. When the company had 7,000 employees, Fernando moved to the Capital of the São Paulo state to attend the University, and right after, started a rich and impressive career at Citigroup. Citigroup then owned Crefisul, Credicard and Citibank financial companies in Brazil, and Fernando had the opportunity to head the Recruiting and Selection Department for the Group from 1974 to 1978. After that, he led the Executive Development, Employee Relations, Compensation and Benefits Departments and became the HR Superintendent for Credicard, the joint venture Citibank developed with two of the major Brazilian banks – Unibanco and Itau. In 1991, Fernando accepted the position of Director of Human Resources for Banco Safra and, in 1995, he moved to Salvador, Bahia, where he became the Corporate Director of Planning and Development for Odebrecht S.A., the holding of the leading group in Engineering and Construction and Chemicals & Petrochemicals in Brazil – a company with 50,000 employees in 25 countries.

Back in São Paulo, Fernando was the Director of Human Resources for Nortel Networks in Brazil, and participated in the start-up of this Canadian telecommunications company in Brazil, participating in the set-up of the telecommunication equipment plant in Campinas, SP. He also participated in the implementation of the Research and Development Center, one of the five Nortel had globally. In 2001, Fernando was hired as Director of Human Resources for Votorantim Cimentos, the leading cement company of Votorantim Group, one of the biggest industrial conglomerate in Brazil. Votorantim bought St. Marys Cement, Inc., a Canadian cement company with plants in Ontario, Canada and Michigan, USA, in 2001. Fernando led the HR function globally from 2001 and 2005, and supported Votorantim Cimentos’ expansion in North America.

Fernando has been a member of many organizations, including the Brazilian Society for Training and Development (ABTD), the Brazilian Chapter of ASTD, the Brazilian Society for Telework and Teleactivities (SOBRATT) and the Brazilian Association of Human Resources (ABRH) since 1999, where he was the Vice-President of Technologies for People Management and member of the Senior Committee for the HR Conference – CONARH.

Fernando is Brazilian. He is a father of a young executive who lives in Miami, Florida, and a young mother who lives in Montreal, Canada. Fernando adopted 3 brother and sisters who now are 9, 11 and 13 years old and live with Fernando and his wife Regina in São Paulo, the industrial and financial center of Brazil
